Some Gauls and a sad conclusion!

Hi gents,

I have come to the sad conclusion that I just don't have enough room and therefore something has to give.I added 6 new cabinets to the games room (Total now 17) to tidy up the overspill and these are now just about full so its time to rationalise a bit.I have been selling off some bits and pieces to make room for the new stuff but will really have to have a serious think about how to proceed. The Napoleonic collection is continuing and the Italian Wars collection is carrying on at present but I still want to do the Crusades in 28mm The Ottoman expansion wars  of the 15th century  a Zulu/British and a Trojan collection
Chariots move by abandoned Roman outpost.

I think they must have seen the size of his sword.

The chariot in front is by Phil Olley

Just a few bits and pieces to get for this collection oops there I go again!

James Roach brush work.

Dave Imrie supplied the fort by Touching History.
More through the week.

We are legion

Hi gents,
I mentioned in the last post the amount of unbased figures lying around and thought I had better pull the finger out and get on with the basing. These figures arrived a couple of weeks ago from James Roach who is now hopefully working on the Italian wars collection for me.
Renegade Romans .

Around 180 of these stuck to bases last night before I ran out of glue.

These are the last legions for my Punic collection.

I will add some vignettes at some point in the future.

Shield transfers from LBM

Having watched Spartacus as a kid I always wanted to see a mass of red Roman shields.

I think these are one of the best ranges that Renegade have ever done.

I will post another pic with the bases complete in the near future I hope!

Time to get the Romans out.

Hi gents,
I thought I would get the Romans out for a few pics. Its been all Napoleonic here for a while but there is more going on behind the scenes.Still a few hundred Romans with James the painter and a huge amount of Italian wars stuff which hopefully will start to filter through soon pics of these as they appear.
Roman siege tower in action.

This is the games workshop piece that came with Phil Olleys Polish collection.

Renegade figures painted by James Roach.

Still a couple of hundred of these to come from James.

These shields were white but I wanted the red look so got the paints out and covered the white.

The towers are very handy for various eras.

Slings simple but effective weaponry.

The tower is covered in hides.

This is about to get messy.
Back to Napoleonic after these with today's new arrivals.

Roman memories!

Hi gents,
Around two or three years ago I had a flashback to when I was a kid, I had just joined the local library junior section and in this section was the book below  by Peter Connolly.
The book had me at first glance the colour plates were very inspirational and the Romans were like none I had seen before.
I was sitting in my office when this memory came to me and for the life of me I couldn't remember the name of the book( I was only nine or ten at the time).
So with the wonder that is google I typed in roman books 1970s and low and behold there it was,I sent off for the book and it now sits in my own library one of the reasons for the Punic collection below.

Peter Connolly's The Roman Army.

Renegade Romans.

Now the room change I can get a lot more of the collection out.

Gauls

I have the Gauls as a stand alone army or as part of the Carthaginian axis.

Still some more Romans to come and then I think I will add a phalanx.

Close up of the chariots.

I had seen an old pic of Seleucid's outside city walls a number of
years ago the figures were painted by Bill Brewer inspirational for this shot.
The figures in these shots are by James Roach and the war office.
I read an article by Jim Webster years ago you may remember it called " Have pike can travel" great piece in this Jim shows how versatile some figures can be Gauls/pike etc to form lots of different army's Carthage/Succsessor amongst others.I plan to do something along those lines here.

New Punic Ellies

Hi gents,
A very busy weekend but managed to make it up to Targe in Kirremuir and a great little show it was too!
I collected these Ellie's from the War Office the foot figures were painted by James Roach, Ellie's and crew by the War Office.I added some weapon bits and the scenics to the bases tonight.

Crusader Ellie's before the scenic is added.

I added the shield to the side of the tower and changed the colour of the tower to white.

A bit of woodland scenics help to bring on the look of the base.

Renegade Romans painted by James Roach more of these to come in the near future.

The design on the shields is from LBM these were white to begin with but
 I over painted these red.

I have five of these for this collection but after seeing the guys from the Phoenix clubs set up at Targe
I may have to increase this they had an impressive 12 on the table!

May do a large set up with these soon.

Still to add the scenics to two of the Ellie's I managed to leave Targe without
mini tufts which was the main reason for going in the first place.

Some close up action.

More Punic Arrivals

Hi guy's,

These additions to the Punic war collection arrived this week from James Roach so thought I would share. The Romans are still to be completed but the Carthaginians are now done with the exception of some bits and pieces.
Managed to get an order for a couple of hundred figures off to The Assault Group and Redoubt today for some Spanish and Italians for the 16th century collection James is doing for me.
For the Swiss and Landsknechts I am going to use Foundry to go with the collection from Phil Olley.

New arrivals this week from James Roach.

Renegade figures.

imitation legionnaires.

James kindly added some extra standards he had for his own collection.

The shields are LBM transfers.

Monolith building with slingers atop.

This just about does the Carthaginians for me some Ellies and numidian horse still to be done.

Still have a bundle of Romans being done by James.

These will be based as the others on flames of war bases in the near future.

Commander.

Last shot of the week.
Thanks for taking the time to visit.
