What did the Romans ever do for us!

Hi gents,

Love them or hate them the Romans have given us plenty. But when it comes to collecting it gives me a problem to many different eras.I have a late republic army I want a late Roman army and not sure I can resist an early imperial army at some time in the future. Then a few weeks back these 3rd century Romans were transferred to the Anderson Collection via Saxon Dog. bloody Romans!.
Roman Command by Dave Imre

Barbarians by James Roach
I live quite near the Antonine wall were some of this kind of action took place.
Dave did a good amount of casualties on the bases which I really like.
Transfers on the shields cut down on the brush work.
I think the cataphracts are by brian Philips another great painter.

Phil Olley painted chariot fits the scene well.
I woundn,t like to be in that front line.
A close up of the action
Cavalry coming to save the day.
I am painting hussite foot today so back to that now.
Thanks for having a look.

  1. Great looking collection of Romans - and Barbarians. Quite the dilemma about different looks on the Romans - that's what happens when an empire last so long; not to mention the earlier incarnation as a Republic. Best, Dean
